Why Early Orthodontic Treatment?

Today we know that younger children (age 7-11) can benefit in many ways from early orthodontic check ups and care. Many of the problems that are easily corrected at a young age cannot be fully corrected if treatment is delayed until the child is a teenager. Younger children are usually very compliant and this is helpful due to growth related problems requiring a certain level of commitment and compliance with orthodontic instructions.

In many cases in younger children, extractions can be avoided with crowded teeth by developing the arches and attending to them at a young age. Although expansion may be accomplished in older children (12+) and even some adults, it is generally less effective and much less stable than arch development at a younger age.

The first phase of treatment will ALWAYS simplify the orthodontic treatment once all permanent teeth have broken through. Research and many years of experience have shown that early orthodontic treatment, can lead to better and more successful results.
